Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) marked an important milestone in the offshore renewable energy sector with the successful launch of TSS Challenger, a new Service Operation Vessel (SOV) built for Ta San Shang Marine (TSSM), a joint venture between MOL and Ta Tong Marine.
Representatives from MOL Vietnam attended the launch ceremony, celebrating the progress of a vessel that will play a key role in supporting offshore wind farm construction, operations, and maintenance across the region
Advancing Offshore Wind Operations


Purpose-built for the offshore wind industry, TSS Challenger is part of the advanced CSOV 9020 series. The vessel is equipped with dynamic positioning technology, motion-compensated personnel transfer systems, modern onboard accommodations, and environmentally conscious design features that enhance both operational efficiency and crew comfort.
Measuring approximately 88 metres in length and capable of accommodating up to 120 personnel, the vessel is designed to enable the safe and efficient transportation of technicians and equipment to offshore wind installations.

Launch Day


The launch programme began with a comprehensive Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) induction, followed by a guided shipyard tour. The activities highlighted the strong commitment of all project partners to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence throughout the vessel’s construction.
Participants also had the opportunity to visit an operating Service Operation Vessel, providing firsthand insight into the specialised technologies and capabilities required to support offshore wind projects safely and effectively in challenging offshore environments.
